Lockdown Letters...

I think it’s safe to say that when we started 2020, with the exception perhaps of Russell Grant, none of us expected to find ourselves in a lockdown situation, with businesses at a halt and all of us having to find new ways of working. One of the things that I have been saying to my clients is that communication with your audience is still as important – if not more so – as it was before. There are a couple of reasons for this:

  • Everyone is out of their comfort zone and keeping in touch with people is what will keep us sane

  • You want to make sure that when we are all able to reopen and get back to ‘normal’ our customers or clients are there with us

  • You have an opportunity to build the brand and focus on the community like never before, without the distraction of the day to day!

It only occurred to me recently that I really wasn’t practising what I preached and I’m rectifying that going forward. However, in the meantime I thought I’d share with you some of the brands and businesses that I think have communicated well during lockdown. Some are my clients but they’re not businesses for whom I create content so it’s not cheating!

Local Lovelies:

NKD Waxing Rebecca has been sending out tri-weekly emails with content like how to use an electric trimmer or updates on what the staff are up to and I think it’s great that that keeps the brand top of mind (not that my unwaxed limbs don’t remind me enough!)

Vanity Rooms I love the way Hannah has been showing all the work she’s been doing to revamp the salon whilst they’re closed, I’ve never known anyone work so hard and it builds excitement for the reopening!

Simply Dance Charlotte has been producing a lot of online content for her dance class attendees online and then engaging content in between that really works with the demographic she is aging at. It also shows how to take a business online when things change

Bigger Brands:

Logo Changes I wrote a quick blog a while back about some of my favourite big names who were changing their logos or marks to support social distancing, you can read that HERE (link https://www.spinningplatespa.co.uk/blog/ilovebranding)

Bravissimo I love their brand anyway and I think they steady stream of communication focusing on upbeat and positive messages as well as features on members of their community have been fabulous

Innocent Drinks If you know me well you’ll know that Innocent Drinks are one of my ultimate brand crushes and during lockdown their daily Facebook posts (self-proclaimed useless information) is really funny and engaging and just makes me love them more!

Is there anyone you think has done really well or are you now thinking you could be doing something even better? There are so many ways to communicate with your audience, the trick is to just start doing it. It doesn’t have to be 100% perfect but it does have to happen!
