Iron tablets, exhaustion and your GP asking how you do it...

For the last couple of years I’ve felt tired all the time, at first I just assumed I was getting old but it got the point where I couldn’t stay awake for a whole day so I went to my gp. Long story short but I’m low on Iron and vitamin D, I now take both but I recently ran out.

I phoned the surgery and was set up with a telephone review appointment, I was chatting through with the GP (a different one) about my life, my last blood tests and how I was currently feeling and as we were talking she made up a new prescription for the tablets.

However, she then said something that surprised me, she said “you sound incredibly busy, I don’t know how you do it”

Marvellous I thought, if a doctor doesn’t even think I should be able to cope with my current lifestyle/workload what hope do I have?

Then I thought again, there are only so many hours in a day and I do as much as I can to the highest standard. I often work late night or early mornings but I get through everything and I’m proud of what I achieve. My clients are happy and the business is doing well so why should I think I’m not coping?

I think it’s partly conditioning that makes me feel like I should always be doing more but the fact is that I do enough. Have a look at what you do in a week, how much you achieve... are you doing enough? Because if so you should be pretty damned proud of yourself.
